Leadership in the public sector: A meta?analysis of styles, outcomes, contexts, and methods

Leadership has attracted growing attention among scholars and practitioners in public administration. With rising availability of study results, however, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep track under which conditions leadership does or not make a difference the sector. This provides meta-analysis administrative various correlates that research theorized as outcomes leadership. The results multi-level random-effects based on 486 effect sizes from 151 studies show correlations are stronger for achievement beneficial than prevention detrimental outcomes, well group- organization-related employee-related outcomes. Moderation analyses reveal style, tradition, subfield, methodological factors explain heterogeneity sizes.
